Why Character Counting Matters
Many platforms enforce strict character limits. Twitter/X allows 280 characters per tweet. Instagram captions are limited to 2,200 characters. Google typically displays 50–60 characters for page titles and about 155–160 characters for meta descriptions in search results. Staying within these limits ensures your content displays properly and is not cut off.
Character Count vs Word Count
Character count includes every letter, number, space, and punctuation mark. "Characters without spaces" excludes spaces, which is the standard used for translation services and some academic requirements. Word count divides text by whitespace.
